More people than ever are working remotely. Thanks to technology, you can be connected and stay in touch with customers, employees, and vendors as long as you have an internet connection. Here are some expert tips to help keep your time working from home enjoyable and productive.
Tips and techniques to help you be successful
Consider Your Work Area
Find a dedicated quiet space, preferably not in the center of your home/apartment (i.e. not your kitchen table or couch, if possible.) It’s important to have a space away from kids, television, cooking and where you relax. Don’t stress over background noise ... sirens, dogs barking, kids talking, etc. They’re just a normal part of working from home.
Set Your Schedule
Set a schedule—try to work similar hours to what you would have on-site at your workplace. Keeping a set schedule really helps build a daily routine. It helps signal your brain that it’s time to work, not rest and relax.
Get Dressed for the Day
It can be tempting to stay in your sweatpants all day when not leaving the house. But getting up in the morning and starting your workday as if you were heading out for the day can boost your productivity. Of course, you can still be comfortable. Yoga pants, jeans, t-shirts and even hoodies are fine options.
Review Your WIFI Service
You need reliable internet service. If your bandwidth is too low, you could experience choppy connections and dropped calls. Consider calling your internet provider and upgrading your service. A stronger connection could help you work more efficiently and reduce your frustration.
Stay Positive
There are many benefits to working from home. So focus on the positives. Things like: no commute, being able to dress comfortably, having easy access to your refrigerator and coffee maker, being home to accept deliveries. The list goes on and on! Plus, when you want more human connection, you can always meet up with colleagues and friends via video calls anytime.
